Growing up I went to the “gym.” I started when I was in middle school with a couple of personal training sessions that my mom bought me. I learned a couple of the machines and off I went. I don’t remember much, but I think that is the point.
The gym is too often thought of as this shared place where you feel awkward but apparently has the answers for our health problems. While this can be true for a few, the reality is the membership is mostly a cheap members card. It helps us get the feeling of having a gym, but do we ever get closer to our goals?
I still feel intimidated by new gyms. I have worked in the industry for 10 years, but it is still true. The gym is where all our insecurities about ourselves come manifest. All that time we “should’ve” been working out is on full display. On top of that, are you really sure you are moving the needle in the right direction?
The regular commercial gym is a failure. They have become membership harvesting machines. In our post Covid world, that will not be a winning plan anymore. This is the best news for our industry. We need to move into a results and education driven industry. We need to keep pushing the envelope in finding specific answers to specific people’s problems.
At CFTC we have been continuing to reach our clients where they need help. For weight loss, that is our incredible Nutrition program. If it is fitness, we will get you set up with one of our coaches to make sure you are working toward your goals. If it is something unique to you, then we will work with you privately to make it happen, or find you the best fit if we cannot. Gym’s should CARE about your fitness goals; not simply provide one way to reach them.
If you have been struggling with conventional gyms, workouts, trainers….maybe it is time for a change. If you need help with your health and fitness goals, and want support in making them happen. Make sure the gym you go to cares too. We would love to hear your goals here!
