Nutrition Journey – Michelle Grosvenor

  1. What was the catalyst for you to start focusing on nutrition? A couple months prior to my first meeting, I had suffered a miscarriage. I was 184 pounds and I believe in my heart it played a part in the loss. Whether it did or did not, it was catalyst for me to focus on nutrition. I wanted to take control over my health and redirect my pain into something positive. 


  1. What were your thoughts going into the program and how did they change as time went on? I was ALL IN for the first month of the program and followed everything by the book. I lost 7# in one month! I never saw those type of results in any other challenge before.


  1. Do you look at food differently now? If so, how? YES! I follow the plate method at home and when I go out to eat. I see my meals as proteins, fats and carbs where as before it would be just food. 


  1. Where did you struggle the most and how did you overcome it in regard to nutrition? Summertime cocktails were the hardest to overcome. I’m not much of drinker but there is something about being outside with a cold one in your hand. Thankfully, companies have come out with seltzer drinks that don’t make you feel bloated. 



  1. What did you learn about yourself during your time in the program? I made a conscious effort to remind myself that its ok enjoy the treats but to enjoy them as such. Don’t get down on yourself if you want a cupcake, enjoy it and move on!

  1. How has this changed your performance both in the gym and in your everyday life? I have so much more confidence in my workouts! I would choose the performance strength and add more weight to the barbell. I felt stronger, faster and took less breaks during a workout too. In my day to day, I was sleeping better and feeling good about the way I looked. 


  1. What did your success look like? What did it mean to you? I have struggled with weight my whole life so when I started to see results and have friends/family comment about my appearance, I knew I was doing something right. Two people outside of the gym, saw pictures of me on social media and were inspired to begin their journey. Inspiring others makes my heart so full. 


  1. Tell us how this program helped you navigate the happenings of everyday life (holiday, eating out, parties, food planning/prepping, etc.)? The first 2 months of the program, I did a lot of traveling for work. I work in the food industry so just think every booth in the convention center has some kind of natural/organic treat to sample. When the show floor closes, you go out to to eat where people order appetizers, drinks, big meal, desserts. People justify the eating by all the steps they made on the show floor that day and I had to get out of the mindset.  I logged every meal and limited my sample intake on the show floor. During dinners, I enjoyed my vodka and soda or maybe a red wine, but never finished my plate. The next morning, I would be in the hotel gym. 


  1. What was it like to work with a nutrition coach? What does the extra accountability mean to you? Working with a nutrition coach has meant everything to me. They want you to succeed and will guide you along the way. When you get hard on yourself, there’s a whole group of people that understand what you’re going through and have your back 100%.


  1. What message would you give to those considering taking the next step in their nutrition journey? If you’re not feeling confident in your clothes or don’t like that way you look in pictures, there is something you can do about it! As someone who thought for a very long time that working out is enough, its not. You can eat too much of a good thing; portion control is real. Also, not limiting food you eat is real. Fad diets are just that. They are not sustainable because you are taking away food that that you crave. If you want to eat rice or certain fruits, you can, just in the right portion.



  1. Is there anything else you would like to share? I am excited to share that I have lost 30 pounds this past year! It was not easy but you find creative ways for your meals and snacks. Always, always be prepared for your next meal. I am also excited to share that I am pregnant!!! In my heart, I believe this journey helped us conceive.
