Inquiring minds want to know!
Do you ever get to a point in your training and wonder, “why am I doing this movement?” or “why don’t we do movement x anymore?” If so, good! You’re like me, a natural inquisitor of information. Asking the right questions is what put me on my current trajectory. Lucky for me, Coach Andrew started offering an Advanced Theory Class. ATC segues into learning the basic ins and outs of what is CrossFit. Pretty cool, right? I think so! I think it’s important to know the how and why things are done. However, I know there are some people who just want to come in and do the workout, and that is totally cool too! BUT that’s not me so hear me out, if you will. 😉
I found that there’s a lot of forethought and time that goes into programing our day to day workouts. Mostly, I noticed the main focus on the health and safety of our athletes. This spurned me to delve more into why with certain movements we use dumbbells more often than barbells. For instance, like the snatch, when we use a dumbbell we are keeping those small stabilizer muscles strong. It may not be as flashy as doing a snatch with a barbell, but our shoulders will thank us in the end. I’m down with that because I’m in this for the long haul. Aren’t we all? It was awesome seeing the big picture stuff instead of just my daily dose of fun…suffering? Fuffering?
I haven’t reached the tip of the iceberg on learning yet. But I feel like every time I learn a new tidbit of information, I have my “a-ha” moment. So everybody, what say you? Are you like me? Inquiring minds want to know!
